Residential and Multi-Family Dwelling Noise Control
We regularly provide design information to architects and developers on unit-to-unit noise isolation for multi-family residential construction, as well as measurement and analysis of road traffic, aircraft and rail noise for its impact on residential construction. We provide wall, floor and ceiling construction details to help ensure that building construction meets local building code Sound Transmission Class (STC) requirements. We also provide exterior wall and window details for control of exterior noise. Control of plumbing and elevator noise is often part of the scope of work.
With housing density on the rise, more developers are finding sound isolation to be a major selling point. Our involvement during the design can help to ensure that the building construction meets the realtor's promises. Site visits during construction can save thousands of dollars in renovation costs by catching poor construction practices, such as mechanical "short circuits" between isolated walls or plumbing before they compromise the noise isolation of the finished building.
