BKL has been deeply involved in the promotion of improved acoustical standards for schools and universities as part of a program to help provide a comfortable and helpful acoustical environment for people with hearing impairment. We developed acoustical guidelines for hearing impaired access for the University of British Columbia, and other Canadian universities.
Lower background noise and shorter reverberation times are important components of providing usable speech intelligibility for people with moderate hearing impairment. We design and specify listening assistance systems for compliance with the Canadian and American building code requirements for access by people with hearing impairment.
